Abstract:
Ladybugs, Ladybird Beetles, or Lady Beetles are insects that hemispheric in shape and usually 8 to 10 mm (0.3 to 0.4 inch) long with short legs and brightly colored with decorative red or multicolored patterns that are pleasing to look at. Ladybugs are harmless to most humans. Although they can bite people, their bites don't cause serious injury or spread disease. The most common legend as to how ladybugs got their name is that during the middle ages in Europe, swarms of aphids were destroying crops. The farmers prayed to the Virgin Mary for help – and help came in the form of ladybugs that devoured the plant-destroying pests and saved the crops.
